Welcome to thiscanthappen.com, the personal website of Gordon McVey.

As you can see, this site has overgone a petty major overhaul, both in terms of its presentation and in terms of the back end code that drives some of the pages such as the news and various gallery pages. The design is still evolving as I finish off more sections and add more content. The design is intended to be as standards compliant as humanly possible with both the HTML and CSS validated against the latest standards from the World Wide Web consortium. I have also decided that it is about time to make a clean break with the past as far as browser support goes. For this reason I don't officially support Internet Explorer 6 anymore, as its PNG support is rather lacking to say the least, and besides Internet Explorer 7 fully supports this feature. While the layout should be more or less as intended for the most part in IE 6 some of the site will look rather odd.

The site overhaul work continues with some changes to the Web Design gallery and some design tweaks. The main additions are that the Limo Booking demo and the Buy, Sell and Swap demo are online and functional, except for a few features such as image uploading. I've deliberately decided to leave that feature disabled for now as I haven't fully figured out the structure of the image table from my old development files yet, and it's an obvious source of possible site vandalism.

Unfortunately, some of the sites I have listed on my web design gallery have gone down, apparently permanently. As I don't have backup files for those sites I decided to create a new "Dead sites" subsection for them so that they will still be listed in the hopes that they come back online at some point in the future.

I have made a few tweaks to the design as well but haven't uploaded them yet because I am using a transparent PNG to achieve the effect and while it works fine in Internet Explorer 7, version 6 doesn't support the effect. When I have the time I will tweak the IE 6 workarounds CSS so that it leaves the site as it is for IE 6 but loads the tweaks for browsers that support it properly.
